Pastor Tim Sauls
Timothy Sauls has been our pastor since the beginning of Calvary Chapel of Red Oak. Pastor Tim grew up in a mainline denominational church in rural North Carolina where he was influenced by a godly mother and a supportive father.
At the age of nine, Tim received Christ during a chapel service at the Christian school he attended for 11 years. After graduating from high school he attended Liberty University (then called Liberty Baptist College), where he met his wife, Valorie. Pastor Tim credits much of his spiritual growth to his relationship with Valorie. Valorie is a California girl who attended Calvary of Costa Mesa during the early years under Pastor Chuck. Pastor Chuck married Pastor Tim and Valorie in 1983 and dedicated all three of their children, Jessica, Candace, and Rex.
God used these events to expose Pastor Tim to the style and ministry of Pastor Chuck and Calvary Chapel. During college Tim began to minister as the special education Pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA. There he learned much about patience in ministry and what ministry is really all about. Tim pastored more than 100 developmentally disabled adults for over two years.
After college Tim moved back to North Carolina, where Tim became involved in the ministry of the local church as a Sunday School teacher. It was there that both Tim and Val became aware of God’s call on their life. Tim became a licensed minister of the Calvary Chapel Association and began to provide pulpit supply in small churches and a prison ministry. In 1991, Tim served as interim pastor of a small church in Fremont, NC, for six months and God confirmed the power of the teaching of His Word in this small congregation. God then moved Tim and his family to Rocky Mount through his secular work. After a few months God led the family to a young church that was very much the style of Calvary Chapels. There, Tim was loved and supported by the pastor and encouraged to utilize the gifts that God had given him. Val and Tim began to minister there in youth and children’s ministry. Once again God blessed in miraculous ways.
Tim was ordained in 1993. In 1995, Tim was led to begin the work that is currently Calvary Chapel of Red Oak. The calling of God was simple... “Teach My Word!” That calling and the style of ministry that most appealed to Tim led him to pursue affiliation with the Calvary Chapel Association.

Our History
Calvary Chapel of Red Oak was formed in 1995, as Calvary Chapel of Rocky Mount. In a room above the garage of one of the members, the body came together desiring to study God’s Word, fellowship as Believers, and worship God in a balanced, contemporary atmosphere.
Since the beginning, our worship has been very informal. Our services have focused on the teaching of God’s Word. We began that first Sunday in Genesis 1:1 and have continued through the Bible in a systematic way.
After about three weeks, we moved from the original location to the conference rooms at the Hampton Inn. We worshiped there for about six weeks noting that we were perhaps the only church that offered a continental breakfast. God then blessed us with a location in Hunter Hill Square where we worshiped for six years.
During that time God opened the door for us to purchase land in the Red Oak community near the homes of some of the members. In a miraculous way, God made it possible for us to purchase twenty acres of land for the cost two acres. As we dedicated the land to God, many of us began to have burning hearts for the community of Red Oak. We knew, however, that there was no human way we could build immediately. We were reminded of the scripture that tells us “It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord.”
In the fall of 2001, we saw God’s hand leading us to begin construction of our current building. We are overwhelmed at God’s goodness and His provision. It is our desire to be a good neighbor and messenger in this community.
We want to serve Jesus Christ by serving others and being a lighthouse to hurting souls in need of peace and rest.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are not a "denominational church," nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only to their overemphasis of the doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ.
We believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ's (agape) love, which is greater than differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.
We believe worship should be spiritual; therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.
We believe worship should be inspirational; therefore, we give great place to music in our worship.
We believe worship should be intelligent; therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us on how He should be worshiped.
We believe worship should be fruitful; therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him.
